Happy 2009!  We just released an update to Webon, the first of many we expect to do this year.  This update includes a bunch of small improvements across the service, but we also made two bigger ones.

First, you can now register additional domains beyond the one you get when you upgrade to a Personal Account.   We heard from some of you that you'd like to use a different domain for each of your sites, and this lets you do that without upgrading an account for each one.

Second, we tracked down an issue in IE 6 that was causing Webon's page editor to occasionally stall for a few seconds at a time.  If you're an IE 6 user, we think you'll notice the difference.  (We still encourage you to upgrade to IE 7 or switch to Firefox, though; those browsers perform better with nearly all web applications, not just Webon.)

We have more improvements on the way.  In the meantime, what would you like to see us add to Webon in the first part of 2009?  Leave us a comment with your thoughts.

I think the most important feature to add as soon as possible is sub-navigation. It would be great to specify a page's "parent" and have the template(s) automatically handle it. Three levels of depth would probably be enough for most people's needs.

that would be cool but i'm also hoping we'll see some kind of shopping cart or paypal sort of thing soon? keep up teh great work!

I want links to please be able to open into a new web page so that people do not leave the site.  Currently I have to use Word to change the link's properties.

Thanks for commenting, folks.  The three suggestions you've made so far are on our to-do list.  Keep the ideas coming!

PASSWORDS!!  When will we have the ability to password-protect our sites??  Most other WSIWIG web design applications have this ability.  This is a very important feature.  We should have the ability to password-protect individual pages or the entire site.  I'm currently searching for a third-party password-protect product since WebOn doesn't currently offer it.

MORE TEMPLATES!  Most other web-design sites / applications have a large selection of templates.  What would be great is templates geared toward specific businesses / industries, such as restaurants / pizza, lawyers, beauty salons / spas, automotive, etc.

PAGE MANAGEMENT - if I want to remove a page from my site - but not DELETE it entirely - there should be an option for that.  What if I want to remove the page TEMPORARILY, then post it back on my site at a later date??  Currently, there's no way to do that.  Also, what if I want to create a new site, and use a few pages from an existing site??  I'd have to re-design them all over again for the new site, wouldn't I??  It would be nice to be able to exchange pages back and forth between sites.

In response to those last three suggestions:

Password-protected pages: This is on our to-do list.

More templates: We add new style templates regularly, but I'll take this as a vote for more business-oriented ones. :)

Page Management: It's possible to remove a page from your site without deleting it, actually. In the Page Manager, just uncheck "Show in site menu" for that page. When you're ready to add it back, check the box again.

Thanks for the feedback.

It's great that pages can be removed without deleting, then added back at a later date, but what if I want to use some pages from an existing site, and incorporate them into a NEW site??  Any way to do THAT??

And as far as templates, other WYSIWYG sites/programs have a huge array of templates to choose from, and they're in a categorized list.  Is it possible to incorporate third-party templates into WebOn?

Hello, Webon Team:  I'm enjoying building my web site.  Regarding the Guest Book would it be possible to add a line in the 'Comment' and or Leave a Message for viewer to leave their email and or Web Site address?

Thanks,

Regarding guestbooks, you can add a line for "Email", "Website Address", or any other field by selecting the "Edit questions" option.  You can change the names of existing fields or remove them, too.

EmbarassedDuh, sorry derek, I didn't realize that I 'could' add-in lines.  Thank you, for letting me know, appreciate it very much.  I went back to my www.robbinsnestcreations.com and added email and web site lines.  Thanks again, Kathy

DISAPPEARING  ACT!  Why is it that when I'm rearranging text and graphics on a page, items often just DISAPPEAR for no apparent reason???  There one minute, GONE the next!!  Then I have to go back and insert the graphic or text back in again, and I often have to do this MANY times.  Very frustrating.  Also, items don't always go / stay in the spot I want them to - any insight on this????

What if I want to take some pages from an existing site, and incorporate them into a NEW site??  Any way to do that?

Also, regarding templates, is it possible to incorporate third-party templates into WebOn, or are we stuck with just the ones you guys offer through the program?  Would like to see a lot more choices.

2 things that have already but mentioned but Id really like these features.

Submenus in the Navigation Bar - Larger websites need this feature to keep everything organized.

Option of paypal and shopping carts would be very nice feature too.

 Thanks, Rainer

Just a note about passwords - I know they are on WebOn's "to do list," but I want to make a couple of suggestions.  First, it would be great if we had the choice to password protect the entire site, or just certain pages, or both.  Secondly, I would love the option to include a password HINT on the login page.  For example, if my password is the name of my dog, the text would read, "PASSWORD HINT: What's the name of the site owner's dog?"  This way, people coming to my site won't get frustrated trying to remember yet another password!  I know that my brain is fried trying to remember passwords for so many sites.  Password hints would be a great way to insure that people I know personally are able to get in, yet still be secure enough to keep unwanted visitors out.

Please set up the links to be able to allow linked pages into a new window.  (the target function)

Still hoping to add background music someday...is it going to happen!

Yes, it is. We will have a few music uploading and playing options by this summer.

After getting this message "Your site is no longer public, but *.ash.com will be reserved until you delete the site or publish it to a new location." I decided to delete the problem site. Now I am trying to publish a new site with the same address but it won't let me! What do I do!?!
